Support LWHS

Continue the tradition, support bold students and their dreams to shape the world.
Lick-Wilmerding High School is extremely fortunate to enjoy a tradition of philanthropy, one started with the founding of the school in 1895. This generosity provides the vital financial resources that LWHS needs to thrive and grow, especially given its expansive mission. Generations of parents, trustees, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, and friends have contributed to the school with a generosity of spirit that simultaneously inspires and humbles us. We are charged by the generosity of James Lick, Jellis Wilmerding, and Miranda Lux to continue finding ways in which we can support LWHS now and well into the future.
Currently, our annual priorities include the Annual Fund, which bridges the gap between tuition, endowment revenue, and the full cost of educating LWHS students; THE event, which highlights the talents of the LWHS community with a stimulating and social evening for adults, and funds a particular need for the school; local and regional alumni gatherings and career networking opportunities; and ongoing communications via newsletters, social media, and the annual alumni magazine.

If you would like to learn more or get involved as a volunteer, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to contact any member of the LWHS Alumni & Development Team. Thank you for supporting LWHS!

General Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: What is the tax identification number for LWHS?

Lick-Wilmerding High School's tax identification number is 94-1186156.
  • Q: What is an Endowment Fund?

Simply put, endowments are permanent savings accounts. An endowment gift is one where the principal donation is maintained in perpetuity and only a portion of the annual investment return is spent. Surplus earnings are reinvested in the endowment so that over time, the fund can grow and provide long-term financial security for the school.
  • Q: How does the Class of 1960 Scholars Fund fit in?

The Class of 1960 Scholars Fund was established during the Campaign for Vision 2002. This restricted endowed fund supports the flexible tuition program.
  • Q: I would like to underwrite a school event. Will this be tax deductible?

All gifts and contributions are greatly appreciated. Only gifts and contributions made directly to Lick-Wilmerding High School, and accepted by LWHS will be acknowledged by the office, and these are tax deductible as allowable by law. The Parents Association asks all volunteers to submit for reimbursement—any and all amounts that are paid out for an LWHS event—in order to accurately plan and track event expenses. Parent volunteer underwriting beyond the amount budgeted is not necessary.
  • Q: Does the school participate in matching gift programs?

We receive many matching gifts each year. Many employers encourage community support by matching the donations of their employees to LWHS.
  • Q: How much difference does my gift really make?

LWHS has a smaller community than a college, university, or large nonprofit. Each donation gives the school the opportunity to fulfill its mission. We ask that you consider making LWHS a philanthropic priority and give at a level that is meaningful to you. Truly, every donation matters and is greatly appreciated.
