Beginning this Spring, Walk with a Purpose will now be named theSam Mihara Day of Justice after our esteemed alumnus.
After graduating from LWHS ’51, UC Berkeley and UCLA, Mihara led a full engineering career with Boeing and later as a consultant. However, his most recent work is documenting and spreading awareness about the forcible evacuation of those with Japanese ancestry during World War II as well as his experience living in a remote camp in northern Wyoming for three years. We are proud to honor Sam’s work and legacy through this name change.
This year, the conference will last for two days—Wed, Apr 17 and Thu, Apr 18. The first day will remain similar to past programming, allowing students to sign up for workshops to explore different social justice topics and the role that each of us can play in combating systems of oppression. Day two will continue exploring similar areas with an explicit focus on creative or artistic avenues. We hope that between both days, students are able to work with their head, heart, and hands.
Please stay tuned for more information as the conference approaches.
