KEEN SF (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) is an organization dedicated to serving disabled youth by providing social and physical activities. KEEN normally matches athletes one-on-one with volunteers, but since last March has been forced to move entirely online. Athletes log on to Zoom each weekend to see their friends and do fun activities like yoga, scavenger hunts and dance parties.
Beginning last fall, LWHS students have been leading and organizing a monthly Zoom session for athletes. KEEN SF recently held their annual gala virtually, but was forced to set a more conservative fundraising goal due to the constraints the pandemic has put on many families. Colly '22 organized a campaign that raised more than $1500 to help KEEN with the cost of software, insurance and other necessities. Colly and many other LWHS volunteers are athletes who've made lifelong friends through organized youth sports – opportunities these kids don't always have.
Colly finds this work very impactful because he understands how important the social connections made at a young age are, and that's only been heightened by the fact that KEEN athletes can't see each other in person. It's been great to see LWHS students from all grades donate time out of their weekends to help create meaningful activities for these kids.
