oin us for a belated Hispanic Heritage celebration with Bay Area critically acclaimed author and artist Jaime Cortez! Jaime will join us for a reading from and conversation about his book Gordo. Gordo is a collection of short stories about migrant worker communities in the Watsonville and San Juan Bautista areas in the 1970s. It is told with humor, drama and heartbreak through the perspective of a boy coming of age. This is an event sponsored by LUFN & LU, but will be in English and is open to all LWHS students, parents/guardians and fac/staff. Bring your copy of the book, if you'd like it signed. Marine Eco Field Trip

Monterey Fish Market, Pier 33, SF
Students will see first hand the work of people who safely gut, scale, and cut seafood to be sent to markets and restaurants in SF. This experience exposes them to the different hands that our food goes through and the ways the processing facility keeps its workers and consumers safe by using safe handling and separating allergenic seafood. Students also learn about the global economy of seafood and how it gets to the bay area, how weather, political, or other events can disrupt the supply chains.
