On Friday, March 14, LWHS hosted a very special evening event: the Miranda Lux Art Fest! The Art Fest idea came from students in our GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) and our LGBTQIA+ Family Network, as a way to come together and show support and solidarity with the transgender community.
Leading up to March 14th, the GSA organized art donations from students, facstaff, parents, alumni, and friends, and then presented an incredible gallery of paintings, drawings, jewelry, sculpture and more. Each item was auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the Transgender Law Center, a national organization that fights legal battles and advocates for members of the transgender community.
By all measures, the event was a huge success: well attended by so many in the LWHS community, delicious food (the sushi was a particular hit), live music from the band Gloomy June, gorgeous art on display, and over $12,000 raised in a powerful show of support for our transgender friends and family!
There are many people to thank for this beautiful evening, in particular the student leaders of the LWHS GSA: Vivienne N. ’26, Maggie B. ’26, Sam W. ’26, Artemis B. ’27, Redd D. ’26, and Mia S. ’25, and the GSA’s faculty advisors Meagan MacPhee and Tony Asaro.
On behalf of the organizers of the Miranda Lux Art Fest, LWHS would like to thank everyone who helped produce the event, from set up to take down, everyone who supported the event by bidding on the art, and especially all of the artists—too many to name—who donated their creative works to such an important cause. This is what it means to be a private school with a public purpose—to use our talents and treasure to build community and make the world a better place.
If you missed the event, you can still participate in the GSA’s fundraiser. Click here to make a donation.
