 | Lick-Wilmerding Parent's Association Mission Statement The purpose of the Lick-Wilmerding Parents’ Association (PA) is to help build and sustain community among the parents, students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni of the school.
The Parents’ Association assists parents in developing an effective partnership with the school to achieve the best possible educational experience for the students.
The Parents’ Association recognizes that the entire Lick-Wilmerding community, with its economic, cultural and ethnic diversity, is enriched by the variety of talents, resources, and backgrounds that each parent brings to the school. |
Message from the PA President On behalf of the Lick-Wilmerding Parents’ Association (LWPA), welcome! All parents and guardians of LWHS students are automatically members of the LWPA. The purpose of the LWPA is to help build and sustain community among the parents, students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni of the school.
We accomplish this primarily in two ways:
- We plan social events to provide parents and families the opportunity to get together, mingle and become acquainted with each other. Because LWHS is a commuter school and we are individuals with busy lives, the opportunity to speak with and get to know other parents whose children attend LWHS is limited. Our efforts to overcome this limitation and build community are evident in the varied events and activities that the LWPA sponsors .
- We organize general meetings throughout the school year, and together with the LWHS administration, support services, and faculty, we provide a forum to inform parents about issues that affect our children. Although we strive to address primarily school related issues and how best to help parents assist their children in navigating high school, we may present material related to teen development, social media, safety and/or any other topic that we, as parents of high school students, find relevant in today’s fast-paced world.
Please watch for announcements in the Weekly Tiger newsletter concerning events, activities, invitations, and PA General Meeting topics throughout the year.
Finally, the activities, events, meetings and work that the LWPA does are the result of parents and guardians stepping up to volunteer their time and efforts to help. Volunteering is a win-win venture at LWHS; you have the opportunity to continue to be a part of your child’s “student” life, and you become an integral part of a community of adults who believe in the value of the extraordinary opportunities made available by choosing Lick-Wilmerding High School.
As we are currently working to improve our LWPA web pages, I encourage you to check back for updates and additional information as we move through the school year. Please check out the volunteer opportunities and consider joining the ranks of our hard-working LWPA volunteers.
I welcome you all once again and look forward to meeting you around campus at the myriad of upcoming events. As I enter my tenth consecutive year as a LWHS parent, I am as excited as ever for the start of the fall semester. Please contact me if you have questions, comments, or would like to discuss anything.
Warmly,
Tori Rosen
